In short
Lufthansa, Eurowings, Condor, Austrian and Turkish Airlines all apply 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8 kg – and we currently stock 69 cabin trolley ranges that fit. Ryanair and TUI fly only allow 55 × 40 × 20 cm (48 ranges), while KLM permits just 55 × 35 × 25 cm (13 ranges). A suitcase that fits all nine airlines is limited to a maximum of 55 × 35 × 20 cm – only 5 ranges meet this, including the D&N Travel Line 9204 (55 cm) and the CHECK.IN London (50 cm).
The "55 × 40 × 23 cm" size is the standard among the major network airlines – but far from universal. Ryanair and TUI fly require a depth of just 20 cm, KLM a narrower width of 35 cm, while easyJet is more generous at 56 × 45 × 25 cm but only includes the large cabin bag for free on certain fares. We've checked every available cabin trolley's manufacturer dimensions against current airline rules. Below you'll find the lightest suitable models for each airline.

Lufthansa, Eurowings, Condor, Austrian, Turkish Airlines: 55 × 40 × 23 cm
The standard size. 69 of our available cabin trolley ranges fit – including every model from the Ryanair table further down. If you want to make the most of the full 23 cm depth (more volume at the same height), here are the five lightest trolleys with more than 20 cm depth:
| Model | Dimensions (H × W × D) | Empty weight | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsonite Attrix 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 23 cm | 2.1 kg | 38 l | €198.18 |
| travelite Jetpack 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 23 cm | 2.2 kg | 40 l | €71.95 |
| Stratic Novium SL 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 23 cm | 2.3 kg | 37 l | €129.95 |
| Eminent DANDELION 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 23 cm | 2.3 kg | 44 l | €149.00 |
| travelite Bolonia 53 cm | 53 × 30 × 22 cm | 2.4 kg | 35 l | €59.95 |
With an 8 kg weight limit, that leaves around 6 kg for your packing. See the full range: Hand Luggage Suitcases.
Ryanair and TUI fly: 55 × 40 × 20 cm
Three centimetres less depth – which rules out many standard trolleys. 48 ranges still fit; here are the five lightest:
| Model | Dimensions (H × W × D) | Empty weight | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| travelite Jetpack 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 1.7 kg | 41 l | €80.95 |
| Samsonite Lite-Shock 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 1.7 kg | 36 l | €304.44 |
| travelite Skaii 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 1.9 kg | 36 l | €99.95 |
| Samsonite Chronolite 55 cm | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 2.0 kg | 38 l | €229.00 |
| travelite Air Base 55 cm | 55 × 39 × 20 cm | 2.1 kg | 37 l | €129.95 |
With Ryanair, the large cabin bag is only included with "Priority & 2 Cabin Bags" or on the Regular and Flexi Plus fares; with TUI fly it's always a chargeable add-on. If you'd rather stick to the free small bag allowance, suitable models are listed further down.
KLM: 55 × 35 × 25 cm
KLM is the special case: 35 cm width instead of 40. Only 13 ranges meet this requirement; the five lightest:
| Model | Dimensions (H × W × D) | Empty weight | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsonite Attrix 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 23 cm | 2.1 kg | 38 l | €198.18 |
| D&N Travel Line 9204 55 cm | 55 × 34 × 20 cm | 2.2 kg | 33 l | €70.52 |
| travelite Jetpack 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 23 cm | 2.2 kg | 40 l | €71.95 |
| travelite Air Base 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 25 cm | 2.2 kg | 35 l | €119.95 |
| CHECK.IN London 50 cm | 50 × 34 × 20 cm | 2.3 kg | 29 l | €62.95 |
Important for KLM: in Economy, the large and small items combined must not exceed 12 kg.
easyJet: 56 × 45 × 25 cm (large cabin bag)
The most generous size allowance – 75 ranges fit, covering practically every 55 cm trolley from the tables above. However, the large cabin bag is only free with easyJet Plus, on the FLEXI fare, or with an Up-Front/Extra-Legroom seat; otherwise only the small bag at 45 × 36 × 20 cm applies.
Worth knowing for easyJet frequent flyers: these 9 ranges exceed 55 × 40 × 23 cm and are only accepted as cabin baggage by easyJet – the lightest of these:
| Model | Dimensions (H × W × D) | Empty weight | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| travelite Air Base 55 cm | 55 × 35 × 25 cm | 2.2 kg | 35 l | €119.95 |

For the personal item allowance on Lufthansa, Condor, Austrian and KLM (40 × 30 × 15 cm), we don't currently stock any trolley or bag with a depth of 15 cm or less – a slim laptop bag or a narrow backpack is the better choice here.
How we checked
- Airline rules taken from our individual airline guides, which we verify against the airlines' own websites (date shown per airline in the table).
- Product dimensions including wheels and handles as stated in the manufacturer data in our product listings; a model is considered a fit if height, width and depth all fall within the limit.
- Only in-stock models with multiple units available, one entry per range, sorted by empty weight.
- Tolerance: if you're right at the limit, avoid overpacking soft-shell trolleys, as they can bulge beyond the stated size.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 55 × 40 × 23 cm trolley fit Ryanair's hand luggage allowance?
No. Ryanair allows a maximum of 55 × 40 × 20 cm for the large cabin bag – three centimetres less depth than Lufthansa, Eurowings or Condor. Sizing is checked at the gate using a size gauge, and an oversized trolley can cost around €70 to €75. Suitable models with a maximum depth of 20 cm include the Samsonite Lite-Shock, the travelite Skaii and the travelite Air Base.
Which trolley fits KLM's hand luggage allowance?
KLM only allows 55 × 35 × 25 cm – that's 35 cm instead of the usual 40 cm width. Of our available cabin trolleys, 13 ranges currently meet this requirement, including the Samsonite Attrix (55 × 35 × 23 cm) and the travelite Air Base Slim (55 × 35 × 25 cm).
Do wheels and handles count towards the hand luggage dimensions?
Yes. All airlines measure luggage including wheels, handles and external pockets. Our dimensions come from manufacturer data and include wheels and handles; a trolley measuring exactly 55 × 40 × 23 cm fits the size gauge used by Lufthansa, Eurowings and Condor, but not that of Ryanair or KLM.
How much can hand luggage weigh?
Lufthansa, Eurowings, Condor, Austrian and Turkish Airlines allow 8 kg, Ryanair and TUI fly 10 kg, KLM 12 kg for both pieces combined, and easyJet 15 kg. A lightweight trolley weighing 1.7 to 2.2 kg empty leaves around 6 kg of your 8 kg allowance free for packing.
