easyJet has a pleasant peculiarity when it comes to hand luggage: the free piece of baggage, at 45 × 36 × 20 cm, is considerably more generous than at most budget airlines. easyJet hand luggage 2026 – the rules at a glance
easyJet flies primarily from Berlin (BER) and selectively from Munich and Hamburg to many Mediterranean and Canary Islands destinations. For hand luggage, the airline distinguishes between two pieces: a small one that is always free, and a large cabin bag that is only free in certain fares or with certain seats.
1. The small cabin bag (free)
Included free in every fare and to be stowed under the seat in front:
- Dimensions: 45 × 36 × 20 cm (including wheels and handles)
- Weight: up to 15 kg (you must be able to lift it yourself)
- Stowage: under the seat in front
- Suitable for this: underseater bags, compact cabin backpacks or small trolleys
2. The large cabin bag (free only in certain fares)
The larger piece for the overhead locker:
- Dimensions: 56 × 45 × 25 cm (including wheels and handles)
- Weight: up to 15 kg
- Free with: easyJet Plus, the FLEXI fare and Up-Front or Extra Legroom seats
- Otherwise: add-on from approx. 7–9 € via the easyJet app (much more expensive at the airport), including priority boarding
- Suitable for this: cabin trolleys – even common 55 × 40 × 23 cm suitcases fit comfortably into easyJet's generous dimensions
Good to know: The free 45 × 36 × 20 cm bag is big enough for a short trip – so with easyJet you travel surprisingly comfortably even without paying extra. If you need the large trolley, book it in advance in the app; at the gate it becomes much more expensive.

If your hand luggage does not fit within the booked dimensions or you have not added the large cabin bag, the piece is carried in the hold at the gate for a fee – depending on the route usually around 55–65 € per piece. That is considerably more than the online add-on.
Money-saving trick: Is the free 45 × 36 × 20 cm bag enough? Then you do not need to add anything at all. If not, book the large cabin bag online instead of at the gate and choose a precisely sized suitcase (no more than 56 × 45 × 25 cm including wheels).
